Soy lecithin is one of the most used additives in our food supply, it is used as an emulsifier, found in nearly everything including protein powders such as whey protein. The way soy lecithin is extracted from soybeans involves hexane, which is a solvent used for varnishes and glue. Hexane residue leftover is damaging to your health. Soy contains active ingredients called isolflavones/ phytoestrogens that are plant based compounds acting like estrogen. Estrogen plays a big part in a women's reproductive system.
Men have estrogen too but only in minimal amounts, consuming phyoestrogens can lower testosterone levels which is not good at all.
Low testosterone levels mean: low/zero sex drive, erectile problems, reduction of muscle mass, depression, fatigue and weakening of bones. For women, having very high estrogen levels is a bad thing as this can lead to irregular periods, fertility problems and risk of breast cancer. If you go to a protein powder shop look at the ingredients on the label and ask yourself if the estrogenic affects of ingesting this additive are worth it.
