Functional Fitness

Moving weight is ok. Moving your body will save lives.

Fitness : The condition of being physically fit and healthy / The quality of being suitable to fulfil a particular role or task. (Google dictionary). Functional fitness focuses on core stability and prepares you for carrying out everyday tasks and even life threatening situations. Ask yourself why are you training. Is it for "looks" or is it for what I wrote in the first line of this post. If its the first one, you're wasting your time. Having the bulging muscles of an onstage bodybuilder is not fitness, nor does this give you endurance or flexibility. Having visible abs but you can't get up without using your hands means your abs are weak and hence unfit.

I have seen many people with visibly muscular physiques, that can lift a lot of weight, but can't even lift their own body. Although muscle does not mean fitness, the two can come hand in hand so long as you incorporate stretches, yoga, etc and providing you don't gain too much muscle. The key is ensuring all the muscle groups are working in tandem for optimal strength, mobility and stability, making you efficient in all scenarios.

Tip: For example if you can't touch your toes (without bending knees of course) or you can't reach at least the middle part of your back or you start panting after a 5/10 minute run then you simply aren't fit.
