Minimising illness

Exercise has positive effects on preventing illness. Having good nutrition and adequate rest will also help minimise the chance of becoming sick. Research showed that moderate exercise resulted in a low risk of infection. Sedentary individuals had an average risk to infection and people with very high exercise amount and intensity had the highest risk to infection due to high training stress. Moreover, exercising in an over trained state increased the risk of becoming ill. If you are an athlete who trains very intensely it is important to take measures to minimise sickness. High intakes of fruits and vegetables are vital to boost the immune system whereas sugar and alcohol should be avoided. See this article outlining how exercise helps boost your immune system.

Tip: Moderate exercise is the key to minimising and helping to prevent illness. For optimal health and immunity it is best to avoid purely high intensity/frequency workouts. Check out my instagram for more.
