Who wants to have a fat saggy chest that does nothing helpful and only damages your health/appearance ? The chest muscles, also referred to as the pectoral muscles or simply the "pecs", are underrated in what they actually do. They control the movement of the arms in various directions as well as being responsible for body movements which involve flexion (bending), abduction (movement away from middle of body) and rotation (turning). Now is the time to clear up that throwing a punch is nearly all in the chest; not about how big or strong your arms are.
Since lateral, vertical and rotational movements are controlled by the chest, this makes the muscle group very important for day to day life let alone the strength and agility benefit. To put it simply, without pectoral muscles you would not be able to push yourself, the door, or let alone anything without struggling to some extent depending on how developed your chest muscles are. Moreover, being a large muscle group, the chest helps to sustain correct posture and overall upper body strength.
Tip: Working the chest muscles by performing push movements such as press ups will give you that tight, wide shaped chest, perfect for optimal movement and strength. Training the pecs also develops secondary muscles such as the shoulders and arms in the same process.
