Training to failure

Should you train to failure ? Training to failure means performing a given exercise again and again to the point of momentary muscle failure. When you take a set to failure it gives you a greater stimulus in your training session on your muscle(s) which is necessary to enhance muscle growth. Training to failure should be used on small exercises;

exercises that you do not have enough strength on to use heavy weight and when you have only one set left you can give everything in that final set knowing it will be the last one.

However, you don't want to often train to failure as it is very taxing on the body and causes an increase in the stress hormone cortisol so it is not needed to take every set you do to failure as it can also lead to improper form and injuries.

Tip: Train to failure with a moderate weight usually on small muscle groups and no more than once or twice a week. If you are training to failure on a large muscle group make sure you have a training partner with you to avoid injuries. This can be something different in your workout routine giving you some variety.
